Christopher R. Belmonte is a partner of Satterlee Stephens LLP.
Mr. Belmonte concentrates his practice in commercial litigation and creditors’ rights. In the Lehman bankruptcy, he succeeded in collecting tens of millions of dollars for various creditors. Recently, after a three week trial in bankruptcy court, he obtained a multi-million judgment against former directors for breach of their fiduciary duties. He regularly represents financial institutions and major corporations in matters regarding lender liability defense, inter-creditor disputes, commercial mortgage foreclosures and bankruptcy. He also has represented the unsecured creditors committee in Colonial Realty Co., the largest bankruptcy ever filed in the District of Connecticut, and Perry H. Koplick & Sons in the Southern District of New York. He has also represented creditors serving on official committees in major cases nationwide.
Mr. Belmonte is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Belmonte is a member of the Westchester County Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is also an active member of the American Bar Association, where he is a member of the Litigation and Business Law Sections.
Mr. Belmonte earned his undergraduate degree (B.A.) from the City University of New York Queens College and his law degree (J.D.) from St. John’s University, where he served as Managing Editor of the St. John’s Law Review.
