Olivia Sanson is an associate at Satterlee Stephens Burke & Burke LLP.

Ms. Sanson specializes in immigration law, assisting foreign nationals and their employers in obtaining benefits under the immigration and nationality laws of the United States. Among other things, these benefits include citizenship, lawful permanent residence, and temporary visas for work or personal visits to the U.S. Ms. Sanson also has experience representing individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Courts and on appeal before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Administrative Appeals Office.  In addition, Ms. Sanson has been involved in federal court litigation to pursue immigration benefits.

Ms. Sanson is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), serving on the AILA New York Chapter Citizenship Day Committee (2007-2010) and the Corporate Practice Committee (2010-2011). She is the co-author of “What about the I-9? I-9 and E-Verify Compliance in the Context of Pending Adjustment of Status Applications and Travel on Advance Parole,” an article in the Immigration Compliance Book (2009-2010 Edition) published by ILW.  Her speaking engagements include “I-9 Completion and Record Keeping” (ILW 2010); the Citizenship Brown Bag Lunch (DL, AILA NY 2009); and “Procedural Issues in Waivers of Inadmissibility” (AILA National 2008). She has also prepared updates for various sections of Immigration Law & Procedure (by Stanley Mailman and Stephen Yale-Loehr), the leading immigration law treatise.

Ms. Sanson sits on the Board of Directors for the American-Scottish Foundation®, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the strengthening of ties between individuals, institutions and businesses of Scotland and the United States. 

Ms. Sanson is admitted to practice in the State of New York.

Education:

Ms. Sanson earned her law degree (J.D.) and a master of laws (LL.M.) in International and Comparative Law from Duke University School of Law, also studying law at the Duke-Geneva Institute in Transnational Law in Geneva, Switzerland. Ms. Sanson received her undergraduate degree (B.A.) in History, with high honors, from the University of Florida. She also received a certificate for studies in “19th Century British History” at Cambridge University in England.
