Sophie Raven is an associate at Satterlee Stephens Burke & Burke LLP.
Ms. Raven concentrates her practice in U.S. immigration law, assisting foreign nationals and their employers in obtaining valid visas to work and live in the United States either on a temporary or permanent basis. Ms. Raven advises clients on issues relating to nonimmigrant (temporary) visas for business or pleasure, visas for lawful permanent residence (“green cards”) and for U.S. citizenship. Ms. Raven also has experience with family-based immigration matters and training visas.
Ms. Raven is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), serving on the AILA New York Chapter Citizenship Day Committee (2008-2011). In May 2009, she lectured before an audience of immigration practitioners on “Transferring Pains - What Makes a Multinational Function Manager under EB-1-3.” She is currently writing, “Licensing Controlled Technology in Petitioning for Non-Citizens,” a new section of Immigration Law & Procedure (by Stanley Mailman and Stephen Yale-Loer), the leading immigration law treatise. Ms. Raven is also a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and its section on International Law, the French American Chamber of Commerce, and the French American Bar Association. Ms. Raven is fluent in French, and proficient in Spanish and Japanese.
Education:
Ms. Raven graduated with distinction from Barnard College, Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She spent one year of her undergraduate studies at l’Université de Paris VII and Reid Hall, Columbia University in Paris where she studied Japanese and French literature. She earned her law degree (J.D.) from New York Law School and was awarded a Public Service certificate upon graduation. Ms. Raven is admitted to practice in the State of Connecticut.
